Client: Rise Interactive Year: 2024 Role: UX Research, Prototyping, UI Team: Product Manager: Noah Ralston, Lead AppDev: Daniel Ramirez, Lead Engineer: Ruben Gonzalez
Background: Connex is Rise’s award-winning media optimization platform that allows our clients to manage their media cross-channel at scale. This level of performance transparency allows our marketers to make client recommendations that many others can’t. This product achieves what few in the marketing industry can- show you marketing budget performance at a high and granular level to marketers make the best decisions to improve a client’s ROI.
Problem: Rise’s trend charts weren’t offering the level of customization and granularity many dashboards offer. With lack of functionality, the intended effect of the charts was not helping our users the way we wanted to. For client presentations, our marketers need to pull data from multiple sources (including Connex) to build their own charts, which has been a huge time-waster for many teams at the company.
Old Connex Charts
The trend charts were in need of a functionality and UI upgrade- the code wasn’t touched for a while and needed a refresh.
Feedback from our Users:
“It’s unfortunate that the Connex Trend Charts don’t allow for me to customize colors and visuals like Google Sheets can. ”
“We need some functionality that allows for us to plot data in a way that’s more accurate. It’s difficult to show data correlation with the current structure of charts.”
“*Silence*...to be honest, I usually just close the trend chart and pull out the data to make my own charts somewhere else.”
Due to the large amount of data that Connex was pulling in from so many engines, we had a great opportunity to allow users to compare metrics from different channels in a way many other platforms couldn’t.
Solution:
Allow for visual customizations so marketers can better tell a story with a client’s data
Let users choose both what metrics and what channels they want to compare. This would be a game changer when speaking with clients with multiple marketing channels and engines.
Allow for more charting types, more space, and allow users to easily save reports to share out to clients.
Initial Sketches and Research
Customization Modal
Before, we’d only show one or two trend lines at once. Now, we can show up to 4 metrics from different channels. Our marketers can better show how their efforts impacted overall client ROI.
Match Colors to Your Client
A big ask from our marketers was the ability to change colors to aid in client pitches and budget meetings with clients. It added a personal touch that resonated with many clients, and color combinations are endless.
Easier Than Ever to Compare Data
Whether comparing one or multiple metrics, it’s easy to customize and save data in Connex for easy viewing. Marketers no longer have to export data from Connex to create their own trend charts.
Change Chart Type
Not all data can be shown effectively on a line chart, so we expanded our offerings to help showcase our marketers’ hard work.
Results
After making changes, our data tracked an increase of usage in trend charts across Connex, and cut down on time marketers had to spend customizing their own trend charts. Check out user feedback below:
“This is awesome. Google sheets would limit to showing 3 metrics, and this helps us out a ton when showing off data to our clients.”
“I LOVE that we can customize colors now. Whether we are pitching to new clients or doing weekly one-on-ones, changing the colors makes it so much more personal!”
“Wow, being able to show up to 4 metric comparisons in one chart is huge. Our clients are already excited to see it!”
